Foley High School teacher Stella Windham Martin takes a look back at her high school days.
Where did you from graduate high school?
I graduated from Julius T. Wright High School in Mobile in 1974.
Did you have favorite classes or favorite teachers?
My favorite class was P.E., and my favorite teacher was Ms. Gholson.
Did you do go prom?
Julius T. Wright was an all girls school, but we had dances that were held in conjunction with our “brother” school- U.M.S.
Did you participate in any extracurricular activities?
I played volleyball, ran track, and was on the archery team.
Do you have any good stories to share?
I received a week off from school due to my smoking in the locker room. Thank goodness we were building our home on Dauphin Island at the time, so I HAD to go down there with my Mom!
Where did you go to college?
Brenau College, Auburn and U.S.A.
Why did you choose to become an educator?
I knew I wanted to always be around fun folks.
If you could go back and relive your youth, would you do anything differently?
Yes, I would pay more attention to friends and family, and I would listen to my heart more.
What do you miss about high school?
Fun and freedom!
Do you have a most embarrassing moment?
I told my 4th grade teacher that I would much rather be next door with the 5th graders instead of her boring class. So she marched me next door and sat me down in the big girl’s class and I thought I would die!!
