Recently the boys and girls soccer teams at Foley High School visited the Glen Lakes Golf Course during one of their practices to play FootGolf. FootGolf is a combination of the sports soccer and golf. It is played all over the world, and there is even an American FootGolf League that is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf.
The official Grand Opening for FootGolf at Glen Lakes took place on February 4th at 11:00 a.m. Numerous soccer players from Foley High were able to attend.
The price for students up to age 18 to play is $8 and adults are $12. Ball rental is $1.00 or you may bring your own. It is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball on a golf course with 21-inch diameter holes. The rules of the game mostly follow those of golf. Soccer cleats are not allowed on the golf course, so wear either regular tennis shoes or, for best results, indoor soccer shoes.
After visiting the course, Maddy Grant, a senior on the girls’ soccer team said, “It’s hard to combine two sports because soccer gives you such an adrenaline rush, and golf is slower and takes time, but I do think it helped with making accurate passes.”
You don’t have to be a real soccer player or golfer in order to play FootGolf. It’s open to everyone, and is fun for people of all ages with any range of skills or experience.
