Car’s break down unexpectedly all the time. This happens to people everyday all across the world. It even happened to me recently, and unfortunately I was unprepared. I called for help; after waiting twenty minutes help arrived, and I was taught how to properly jump-start a car. This is a skill that anyone driving should know how to do, incase this happens to you.
Here are the list of thing you will need to jump-start your car and instructions on how to use them.
What you will need
•a broken down car (obviously)
•a running car
First, you will need to take out your jumper cables. It is always good to have a pair of jumper cables in your car in case of an emergency. However if you don’t have cables, find a kind person who has them and is willing to help.
Next, open the hoods of both cars while in park or neutral. Then with the cables, attach the red clamp to the positive post on the running cars battery and the other red clamp to the positive post on the broken down car’s battery.
After that, connect the black clamp to the negative post of the running car and the other black clamp to the negative post on the broken down car.
After all the clamps are connected to each car’s battery, place the key in the ignition and try to start the broken down car. When the car starts running, you want to leave it on for a few to minutes. This gives the battery a chance to charge, so the battery won’t die the next time you shut it off.
Finally, take the clamps off in the opposite order from when you placed them on. Be careful to not let them touch or they may spark.
Being able to fix your car without having to call your local mechanic is something that everyone should be able to do. With only a few things and a few simple steps, you will be on your way!
