I recently spent some time with Foley’s wrestling team, a program that is in its second year. I attended their after school practice, which was a great chance to get to know some of our wrestling team members. They are very friendly and really close as a team. Filming three of their matches was a learning experience. I had never been to or watched any wrestling matches other than professional, so I wasn’t aware of rules or procedures and now I am slightly more educated than I was prior to attending a high school match.
I asked several players about their experiences as members of the team.
Did you learn anything from your last match?
I learned how to better set up and execute my shots. I also changed my levels and better learned how to stay low. –Shawn Tanner
What is a typical practice like with the wrestling team?
We have to run and stretch first. Then have to do some wrestling drills, try out new moves that we learn daily and then we do cardio. We also have extra coaches that come in to help during practice. – Michael Ringler
What is your favorite pump up song to listen to prior to a match?
“Give Me Something to Break” by Limp Biscuit, “I Mean” by G-Easy, “What’s Happening” by Tricky Daddy, “When the World Collides” by Powerman 5000, and “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor” by Drowning Pool. –Camron Tooley
What is a typical bus ride like with the wrestling team?
A typical bus ride with the wrestling team is very focused and concentrated on the task at hand. We are just getting our minds right and being focused on what we have to do. So we can execute it in any way possible. –Trent Trotter
