In December of 2016, Foley High School lost one of their own, Brianna Showers. Brianna was a Foley High School sophomore who sadly lost her life on December 11, 2016. She will be greatly missed.
Brianna was a sunny person who had a delightful smile and impacted more lives than many people realized. She was in the Foley High School Band’s color guard and had a bright future ahead of her. Her favorite color was purple. Close friends and Peer Helpers decided to honor her with purple ribbons, with every donation they received to help aid with funeral expenses.
I spoke to friends and faculty members who knew Brianna, and they had lots of nice things to say.
Jimmy O’Cain had known Brianna since she was at Elberta Middle School, when she started out in a feeder guard program before coming to FHS as a freshman. “She was really sweet, very friendly, and a good student.”
“Brianna is the most loving and caring person. Even when she was down, she would put a beautiful smile on her face!” said Sarah Trattles.
When the tragic news first reached the student body on the cloudy morning of December 12, 2016, our kind principal opened the library for peace and support. Peer Helpers and counselors were there, helping the students cope with the devastating loss. Many mourned her passing but acknowledged she lived a life of great adventure, fun, and happiness.
Her visitation was held Saturday December 17, 2016, at New Mt. Marriah MB Church in Lillian, Alabama.
Brianna was an extraordinary student and person, and those who knew her well thought of her in the nicest of terms. She will forever be missed and her memory will linger at Foley High School.
