Since 1990, San Francisco-based skateboard magazine Thrasher Magazine has been awarding a yearly award, chosen by the public vote and the magazine’s editors. This year’s recipient is skater Kyle Walker.
“It’s like trying to wake up from a dream,” said Walker. When is this dream going to end, because this is surreal – and we going up! 2016 to infinity, lets go!”- Kyle Walker
Monster Energy congratulates team rider Kyle Walker on winning Thrasher Magazine’s 2016 Skater of the Year Award. Only one year after turning pro for Real Skateboards, the 22-year-old from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, received skateboarding’s most coveted award for a prolific output of video parts and magazine coverage throughout 2016.
Kyle has most definitely earned the title this year, having skated in a variety of new gaps, handrails, and ledges at very high speeds. He was even on the cover of Thrasher’s January 2017 issue when he did a kickflip down a two-story gap in Vans “No Other Way” video.
Based on his insane talent on a skateboard, I am very excited to see what he has in store for 2017.
