As most of you know, Foley High School added another assistant band director, Mr. Michael Roy, for the Mighty Band from Lion Land. I sat down with him and asked a few interview questions and learned that he is definitely a great teacher but also doubles as a great person.
Michael Roy was born on April 21, 1987, in Zachary, Louisiana. Mr. Roy is beginning his 8th year in the teaching profession. He comes to Foley after serving as Director of Bands for seven years at the Houston R-1 School District in Houston, Mo. During his time at Houston, the band received numerous awards and showed an immense amount of growth. Mr. Roy received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. He also is continuing his education and will receive his Master’s in Educational Administration in December of 2017 from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
He is currently engaged to his fiance Paula, who has a son named Paul. Paula and Mr. Roy have been together for seven years and engaged for one, and they are getting married in June. They have two dogs named Gustav and Renee, and they call them their “fur babies.”

“I love all of my students, and I would do absolutely anything for them, but that does not mean that I have to like them everyday.” M. Roy
Michael Roy is a very humbling person and is always a person you can talk to about anything. He is very understanding and gets that ya know, hey, we all have bad days and sometimes we need a break. He is one of my favorite band directors and he knows what he is teaching, which makes him awesome.
Head on down to the band room and say hello to one of Foley High School’s newest staff members!
