Welcome back to Foley Sports Port!
This week we will be covering the annual Baldwin County Band Jamboree! But wait, what jamboree? That’s right, the jamboree got postponed due to bad weather.
We were informed last Tuesday that we would hear something from the county around 2:30 whether or not the jamboree would be a go or a no. It was around 11:30 when we got word that the jamboree would be postponed until next Tuesday (a week later than it was originally planned) on October the 2nd. This is not the first time this has happened. The jamboree was cancelled a couple of weeks ago due to the fact that bands around the county were just not ready because of the weather during practices, but was put back on for the original date.
Around 2:30 when we were supposed to get the message about the jamboree, it was bright and sunny; imagine that! It did not rain at all for the rest of the day! I, as a band kid, was fairly upset. But we will be ready to rock ‘n roll next week (again, October 2nd) and jam out with the Daphne, Fairhope, Baldwin County, Foley, Gulf Shores, Elberta, and Spanish Fort bands. It is being hosted by Foley this year at our very own Ivan Jones Stadium. Be there!
On a side note: this Friday is the Foley Lion’s Football teams’ week off. With this, the band will be getting ready for contest with a 3:30-9:00 p.m. practice Friday night. Contest will be held in Andalusia, AL and Milton, FL the next Saturday, October 6th.
Check back next week for more sports and activity news!
Trevor is currently a Junior at Foley High School. He is in the drum line with the band, and has been involved for four, almost five years. Trevor used to play sports himself, with five years in baseball and two years in football, but quit to pursue drums in middle school. Trevor supports the sports team and activities around campus, and is a firm believer that extra curricular activities are extremely important for mental health and building social skills.
