The Foley High School soccer teams, both boys and girls, are coached by Coach Hammac. This past week, September 10-14, was the beginning of soccer tryouts, and they will continue into next week, September 17-21. This is Coach Hammac’s second year being the head coach of both the boys and girls teams.
In order to prepare for this upcoming season, Coach Hammac says, ” I plan to work hard on team building activities outside of the season, along with skill development and character development. We will focus on working hard in the season and never stopping the progress of the process.”
Last year the boys varsity team had multiple seniors graduate, but there was only one senior that graduated on the girls varsity team. This means we have new players for the boys and seasoned players for the girls. Coach Hammac says, “I am looking forward to seeing what the boy’s team can do this year with fresh faces and so many new guys taking starting positions. Also, I can’t wait to see what the girls will do. Last year, the girl’s team was so young and they did so well, I’m anxious to see how they respond to that success and possibly build on it.”
Coach Hammac wants both the boys and girls teams to be successful this season, but he also has some expectations for them, in order to achieve this success. “I expect the players to have a good work ethic, to pull together and do the things it takes to make this program great, not just playing on the field. Although skill development is important, character development is even more important. From our stadium cleanups and various fundraisers to team meetings, these are just as important as what we do on the field, not to leave out grades and what we do in the classroom.”
