Ruben Galvez is a senior at Foley High School and is a member of the 2019 graduating class. He was born in Mexico and has lived here in the United States since he was two. His favorite classes are science and history. He likes to play soccer, and he works at the Fish River Grill in Foley.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Even though I like where I work, I would probably quit my job. Afterwards, I would give my parents anything they need. I’d buy a new car or truck and then would probably save most of it for the future when I really need it.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you choose?
Gareth Bale. He has always been a role model to me since I was a kid. He is a great soccer player and athlete, so I have always wanted to be as good as him.
Name some people who had a big influence on the person you have become.
My girlfriend Presley and my mom have made a tremendous impact on my life. Both of them always push me to do better and influence me to do great things. I love them both and they mean a lot to me.
What do you miss most about being a kid?
The thing I miss most is not having to worry about anything. When I was smaller, I would just play outside with friends and play soccer. All the responsibilities I have now are nothing compared to that.
Where do you work and what have you learned there?
I work at the Fish River Grill in Foley. I have learned that working hard truly does pay off. I have also made good friends by working there.
What is you favorite sport?
My favorite sport is soccer. I have been playing since I was a little kid, and it has always been a part of my life. I like watching it too, so it is definitely my favorite sport.
What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
Growing up, I would go play outside later or earlier in the morning than I was supposed to. Other kids in my neighborhood would be out late, so I wanted to be out there with them too. My mom would never let me, and I always tried to anyway and ended up getting in trouble.
If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?
If I could witness any event, it would be the 2019 Fifa World Cup. I have always wanted to go and have never been given the chance. One day hopefully, I will make it to one.
The best advice I would give a 10-year-old me would be?
The best advice I would give to 10-year-old me is to live while I can. I miss being younger and having no responsibilities, so that’s what I would tell my younger self. I’d tell myself to have fun and not worry about anything.
What’s your favorite outdoor/indoor activity and why?
My favorite outdoor activity is soccer. I have been playing since I was young, and I love it. I go play every Wednesday and Sunday with friends, and it’s my favorite thing to do.
