Principal Russ Moore recently announced the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Stan Shotts. Coach Shotts teaches History and English at Foley High School, as well as coaching football and girls golf.
Teacher of the Year is an honor voted on by teachers at each school in the county.
Mr. Moore said, “Congratulations to Mr. Stan Shotts for being chosen 2019 – 2020 Foley HS Teacher of the Year! As you all know, we have a ton of outstanding professionals on staff, and all of our finalists received significant support from their peers for this honor. We are proud of all our teachers and congratulate Mr. Shotts on this honor as bestowed by his colleagues. Go Lions!”
Mr. Shotts remarked, “Thank you all so much for this award. Had anyone told me four years ago when my wife and I made the jump to Foley how much our world would change for the better, I don’t know that I would believe them. Each of you have treated us like family, and I am grateful for that. Moving here was definitely the best decision we have made. Alongside of becoming a dad in May and finishing my degree in Instructional Leadership, this honor wraps up one of the wildest and greatest years of my life. Caffeine has certainly done its part in helping me make it, but a special thanks goes out to each of you. Hardly a day goes by where I am not leaning on someone for help, but no words can express how much this means to me. Go Lions!”
Mr. Shotts also received an additional award which was chosen by students.
Seniors were given the opportunity to nominate teachers who challenge and support them inside and outside of the classroom, and they nominated Mr. Shotts for Teacher of the Month for October.
