Austin Donald is a senior at Foley High School in the graduating class of 2020. He spends most of his time working toward his welding degree or working. However, if he somehow has some free time, you can catch him riding around Baldwin County or hanging out with a few close friends. If it happens to be hunting season, you probably won’t see him. He wears flip flops just about everyday.
What are your post graduation plans?
I plan to go to college at Coastal Alabama. I will major and hopefully get my associates degree in Welding Technologies. After I graduate college, I want to go on to be a successful welder.
Name some people who had a big influence on the person you have become.
Well, the biggest influence would definitely have to be my mom and dad. Also my pawpaw, because seeing him work hard everyday, even to this day at age 72, taught me a good work ethic.
What’s your favorite outdoor/indoor activity and why?
I love hunting and fishing, but hunting is my true favorite. It’s just so relaxing and peaceful to sit in a tree and hope for a deer to walk out. You also get to watch the sunset and listen to nature.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
I would have a house built for my mom. Nothing too big, just something nice with some land, like maybe two or three bedrooms and one or two bathrooms with several acres of land.
What do you miss most about being a kid?
I miss the lack of responsibilities. I didn’t have to get up thinking about everything that had to be done, go to work, or anything like that. I could just get up and do whatever I wanted.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you choose?
If I could meet anyone, I would choose my mom’s dad. He passed away before I was born. However, everyone in my family says we are pretty much the same person.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would learn to speak another language, or how to do stocks. I feel like either one would help me later in life.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life and why did you choose them?
“The Ones that Like “Me” by Brantley Gilbert, “Simple Man” by Shinedown, and “Imagine That” by Kevin Gates. All of these songs either describe me or have an inspiring message. These are three songs I can listen to no matter what.
What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
I did all kinds of things as a child to get in trouble. The main thing would be running off, because I loved adventure. My mom was always chasing me around the yard, stores, etc. and it wasn’t good when she caught me.
The best advice I would give a 10-year-old me would be?
Be yourself, and don’t let people get to you. People who feel bad about themselves target each other. So just don’t stoop to their level.
