Kimberly Rigsby is a senior at Foley High School and a member of the 2020 graduating class. She was born in Foley, Alabama, but her voice makes her sound like she is from somewhere else. She is kind, funny, and a nice person who loves to make people smile. When she has other free time, she likes to take her car on joy rides and go to basketball games. She has three sisters, and they all went to Foley. She love listening to Camila Cabello. She played soccer for about 11 years and played on the high school JV team for three years. She did track as a second sport, and she is really fast. Her favorite thing to do in her free time is to scriptwrite and play Xbox-1. She hopes to one day become fluent in sign-language and go to the Olympics. She wants to go to South Alabama and play soccer there, because it has always been her dream. She said if she can’t go there, then she would love to use her other talent and that is “doing track.”
Who would you like to thank and why?
I would like to thank Coach John for pushing me to become a better goalie. I have learned a lot from him, even if it wasn’t related to being a goalie. The cool part is he got some hearing aids, and I taught him how to use them.
Tell us about the friends you’ve made through your school years.
I met a lot of different people; the friends I have now are my sister’s cousins. I have friends that I have known since kindergarten, and we are still close. I met a lot of people on track. They are, well, let’s say “very funny” to be around.
What’s your favorite outdoor/indoor activity and why?
My favorite outdoor activity is soccer. Indoor activity would be making stories. I have been playing soccer for about 11 years, and I started making stories in 2018. The cool thing about these is that I’m still highly interested in the activities I am doing.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you choose?
I would love to meet Serena Williams. She’s the woman that I look up to and would love to be very strong like her. She has always been my inspiration, I hope to one day be as brave and respected as her.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life and why did you choose them?
“The greatest” by Sia is a song that motivates me and pushes me to try harder. “Warrior” by Demi Lovato is a great reminder about why I want to become a strong woman. I’m a huge fan of all of Camila Cabello’s songs, which are very outgoing and make me want to get out of my comfort zone.
What was an experience that made you a stronger person?
Walking away from what happened my sophomore year made me a stronger person. I’m proud to have come out of that terrifying moment alive. I learned that everything happens for a reason, and it is up to you to decide how you are going to overcome it.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to speak sign language fluently. I love sign language so much, but I don’t know it fluently. Maybe one day I will. I always wanted to be an interpreter but chose not to and decided to take another path.
What’s it like having hearing aids?
Honestly, having hearing aids is really fun, once you understand how they work. They are true miracle workers, like I’m not deaf, but it improved my hearing. The best part about having hearing aids are bluetooth to your phones to listen to music and talking to people about 45 inches away.
What do you miss most about being a kid?
I miss dressing up as a witch for Halloween every year. The funny thing about that was that it was always a purple costume without a broom. I enjoyed every moment of it along with the candies.
